The first waterborne coatings for coil coating processes

Conventional coatings consist largely of solvents. These account for up to 70 percent of the total volume. The problem: solvents are chemicals that have a negative impact on people and the environment. By comparison, water-based coatings consist of only five to six percent organic solvents. And that makes them much more tolerable and significantly reduces the potential for health hazards.

Breakthrough in tabs for loose-leaf binders

Of course, HUEHOCO also likes to work with water-based paints. The problem: Until now, these coatings could only be used in the field of wall paints. But now SI-Coatings, a HUEHOCO Group company, has achieved a breakthrough. Water-based coatings were developed there that can also be used without problems in the coil coating process.
As a final test, the new varnishes were used for flaps in the fast binder. The result was clear: the water-based coatings have no negative impact on the quality of the lugs.

Environmentally friendly advantages

The use of water-based coatings not only has positive effects on quality, but also on the environment. Among other things,CO2 emissions were significantly reduced from 8.3 kg per metric ton to 5.1 kg per metric ton. In addition, the use of these coatings produces fewer so-called “volatile organic compounds,” which leads to a significant reduction in odor.
